What is Twitter? Twitter has gained popularity as one of the newest powerful Social Networking sites online today. If you’ve heard of other social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Myspace etc. they are all social networking sites. Each site has it’s own demographics. Each site has it’s own uses as well as it’s own set of rules for use.

To understand twitter you must first understand the concept you simply make aquaintances through short messages and you always answer the question of what are you doing? Twitter does have a distinct way about them different then other social media sites and this is in the way they communicate. Twitter only allows 140 characters of communication at one time. so in actuality you may only type in 140 characters of text per communication. In reality then you are simply sending out text messages to your friends and associates. These communications are called tweets. I know this all sounds very cute. It’s not, it is a very powerful force to be reckoned with. There are many ways to communicate and establish lasting business partnerships within twitter.

I went to a seminar recently about social networking where one of the speakers had his laptop open and was conversing with his twitter following during the seminar. He was a guest speaker but in between the presentations of the speakers he was texting or tweeting if you will to his followers and explaining what was going on at the time. If you think this is rude? I think not. How many times have you sen people texting their friends. Twitter uses texting as their primary platform.

Once you find out how building your busness on Twitter really isn’t that difficult. If you build your list of followers you can easily accomplish this. The more followers you have the bigger your chance to build your business. So the next time someone asks you what is twitter? you will know how to answer.
